Ian Balfour

A grandson of the founder of the firm (William Balfour in 1888), Ian Balfour joined the firm in 1952, qualified as a solicitor in 1955, and became a partner in 1958. He spent his working life with the firm, initially as a ‘general practitioner’ and then, as specialisation set in, in Court work.

More information

He retired as Senior Partner in 1997, but retains a lively interest in the firm, and is regularly at the office in Frederick Street in his capacity as Joint Auditor of the Edinburgh Sheriff Court. He is also the Secretary of the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland.
