"widely renowned"
Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2007

The Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2007 says: “Balfour + Manson’s recommended practice advises on wills and trusts, inheritance tax planning and administering estates. It is widely renowned for its specialism in work for the elderly and disabled clients, and knowledge on incapacity and mental health law. ‘Pragmatic’ head of the private client department Brenda Rennie is well regarded for ‘her forte in elderly and disabled client service’.”

Brenda is supported in this area by Jo Downie, the firm’s Client Welfare Manager. Jo is able to provide practical and caring support and advice when a client has to move from their own home. She helps clients find the best options for continuing care: whether to move to sheltered accommodation or care home; and provides advice in selling house contents and clearing the house. She has particular expertise in dealing with the sale of valuable items. Continuing support remains available to clients after the completion of a move, or when family and friends live at a distance. She also deals with house clearance after a death.

A full service is provided to such clients with the management of funds if this is required.

Another area of specialism is in providing advice in contentious executry situations. Experts in the private client department can call on the services of our dedicated litigation team to handle disputes in estates where court actions are required. The cross department co-operation is of great benefit to the client.
