Sometimes when an adult is unable to make decisions or take action because of their mental incapacity the Court may appoint a Guardian to look after their affairs for them.
At Balfour + Manson we have experience in dealing with guardianship issues for adults - from young adults with lifelong learning disabilities to older people who have developed conditions such as dementia and Alzheimers.
Usually the guardian is either a close family member or a close friend. Sometimes, however, solicitors or other professionals are appointed, particularly if there are investments and savings to be managed.
To become a guardian, an application must be made to the Sheriff Court. We can help you with this.
