Disputes in England

Gordon Deane is qualified to practise in England, as well as Scotland. He regularly advises Scottish-based clients in English-based disputes. He has recently advised a client in relation to a multi-jurisdictional dispute over the owenership of a number of properties in London. He is also currently acting for a client in proceedings in the London Court of International Arbitration.

Case vs. National Grid

Gordon Deane advised a land owner in North East England in a dispute with National Grid.

The dispute centred upon the interpretation of a Deed of Grant whereby National Grid were entitled to carry out renewal and repair works to electricity pylons on our client’s land.

There was a dispute as to whether a major upgrade of the pylons was permitted under the Deed. We notified National Grid of our client’s claim and then embarked upon negotiations on behalf of our client to resolve the dispute.

The negotiations were successfully concluded and a new Deed was agreed between the parties.

Prime Gulf

Gordon Deane has been acting for an Aberdeen-based company in an international ship management dispute involving a number of legal actions in different countries.

Following a successful arbitration in London, his clients obtained a World Wide Freezing Order in the Commercial Court in London. He is now involved in enforcement proceedings in Nigeria, including the arrest of Nigerian vessels.
