I studied law at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in 2007. Despite being attracted to the world of investment management (and completing investment exams) I decided to stick with the law and qualified as a Solicitor in 2010.
I gained experience advising clients in relation to contractual and regulatory matters. For many years I also provided legal advice to individuals attending the Business Gateway service operated by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Scottish Enterprise.
In 2012 I joined the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator on secondment as an in-house legal adviser. I joined Balfour+Manson in 2014 as an Associate in the Commercial department and I became a Partner in 2017.
I am glad to be able to assist clients in a broad range of matters.

I advise individuals and businesses on commercial matters, including:
I also work with charities of all shapes and sizes. I am regularly instructed to prepare charity reorganisation schemes, which can allow existing charities to modernise their constitutions, and even change legal form. I have established a number of new charities, including a community sports hub and a museum. As a result of my secondment to OSCR I have a good understanding of the regulator’s approach. I feel well placed to assist charities (and those who seek charitable status) in Scotland. I also have experience in assisting trustees who are subject to regulatory inquiries.
I host seminars for our charity clients on topical issues. I have also delivered training sessions on a variety of subjects including trustee duties, good governance and data protection. If you would like to receive invitations to our events please just get in touch.
