I grew up in Dundee and completed the undergraduate LLB and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow. I joined Balfour+Manson as a trainee solicitor and moved to Edinburgh in August.
During my fourth year at Glasgow I assumed the role of President of the Glasgow University International Law Society. The society was only in its second year of formation therefore I worked to develop and expand the society’s aims and objectives and create new links with the law school to facilitate the university’s ‘GoGlobal’ program.
Outside of work, I dedicate much of my time to Scottish youth charity ‘The SSC (A Club for the Youth of Scotland)’. I have been involved in the charity since 2008 and in October 2016 I joined the charity’s Management Committee. I also enjoy using my free time to exercise, cook and my one true love is skiing.
I am currently based in the firm’s Family Law Team. I assist Shona Smith (Partner and Head of Family Law) with a variety of family actions in both the Court of Session and Edinburgh Sheriff Court. My days can be spent drafting Writs, affidavits and liaising with counsel. I am looking forward to the things I can learn in this continuous and litigious seat.
My first six months at Balfour+Manson were spent in the firm’s Private Client department. My daily tasks including drafting Wills, Powers of Attorney, administrating executry estates and assisting with guardianship applications and trust. I learnt a lot from the wide variety of client’s you meet through private client work, and was able to learn to adapt and react. I learnt a lot about the department’s incredible Client Welfare Team, and I am continuously in awe of the incredible support that they provide for the firm’s clients.
