My background has always been in law, and prior to starting at Balfour+Manson, I worked for 2 other legal firms specialising in litigation work.
I started here in September 2012, working in the Litigation department with Elaine Motion, Fiona Muirs and Sindi Mules.
I specialise in personal injury although I am also actively learning about Convention/Human Right issues and Commercial Law.
I work closely with my colleagues on very delicate cases. I thrive in the new challenges and find this role very rewarding
I have successfully run and won several Court of Session Proofs in personal injury cases. Liaising with Counsel and client during the preparation and build up the hearing itself is exhilarating.
In preparation for any hearing expert reports must be obtained and discussed with client and Counsel. These must then be lodged as part of court process. Counsel must always be kept up to date with progress, current information copy reports. I have to ensure witness lists are accurate and citations are sent to all witnesses on time. Where experts are concerned, as you will imagine, they have busy theatre schedules and surgeries to run so arranging suitable dates for them to give evidence can be tricky but I must try to accommodate both them and the Court.
When a case settles prior to Proof it is important that all witnesses informed and citations are cancelled. A court hearing is a difficult time for the client but supporting them through it while managing expectations is paramount. Feed back from all clients have been positive. At the end of the day the client is what matters and getting them the best result possible is always important as well as giving me great job satisfaction.
