Elaine Motion heads up the firm’s 65-strong Litigation team and is on the firm's Management Board.

Qualifying as a solicitor in Scotland in 1986, she spent a number of years in New Zealand and became both a barrister and solicitor there, before returning to Scotland in 1993 to join Balfour+Manson.

Elaine was assumed as a Partner of the firm in 1997. She has a wealth of experience in a number of areas of Litigation, including:

Administrative Law, having represented public bodies, local authorities and individuals in challenging and cutting-edge litigations

* Commercial Litigation, including cases involving contractual property, building and lease disputes and interpretation of insurance policies

Professional Discipline, prosecuting on behalf of regulatory bodies as well as defending individuals in that forum

Personal Injury claims covering high value clinical negligence, accidents at work and road traffic accidents

Elaine is a Solicitor Advocate (Civil) which means that she is able to represent clients in the Court of Session, and United Kingdom Supreme Court, when it is in their best interests to do so.

She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), The Society of Solicitor Advocates, the Medico-Legal Society, the Association of Regulatory Lawyers and a trustee of the vCJD Trust set up by the Government to compensate victims and families of those who contract vCJD.
