Balfour+Manson is moving into Glasgow to complete its triangle of offices in Scotland’s three largest cities.
The long-established independent firm will be based in George Square in the heart of Glasgow from 1st April, adding to its HQ in Frederick Street, Edinburgh, and its fast-growing office in Albyn Terrace, Aberdeen.
The move is designed to provide an enhanced service to the large number of Balfour+Manson clients with a Glasgow postcode.
Scott Foster, Chief Operating Officer for Balfour+Manson LLP, said: “We’ve been looking at opening in Glasgow for some time, and we’re pleased to have found suitable accommodation just over the square from Queen Street station.
“When we looked at the number of clients in our relationship management system with a Glasgow postcode, it was a bigger number than many of us had expected. This move offers much greater convenience to our clients in the west, with our teams on hand to deal with their legal needs. We’re all delighted to complete the three-city triangle.”
A range of legal services, including private client and family matters, along with employment, property and litigation, will now be available from all three Balfour+Manson offices.
Balfour+Manson was founded in Edinburgh in 1888 and built a reputation for high-quality personal service. It has also been at the cutting-edge of diversity, with Ethel Houston, the first female partner in any Scottish law firm, appointed by Balfour+Manson way back in 1949. There was a celebration of the 75th anniversary of this landmark event – and the 100th anniversary of Ethel’s birth – last autumn.
More recently, the firm’s former Executive Chairman Elaine Motion, has been involved in high-profile and successful cases surrounding Brexit, both in the Court of Session and European Court of Justice.
The firm now has a balanced 21-strong partnership, and has scaled up its operations in Aberdeen in recent years. As well as its city centre office, it has a base in Portlethen, Aberdeenshire, after merging with Alastair Hart & Co in May 2024.
