We are delighted to be taking part in Power of Attorney Month this February, supporting the Planning Ahead campaign being led by The Dementia Trust.
Planning Ahead encourages adults in Scotland to set up a power of attorney early, so you stay in control of who steps in to help if you are ever unable to make decisions on your own. It’s one of the most important legal protections you can have, yet fewer than one in ten adults in Scotland currently has a power of attorney in place.
A power of attorney is a legal document which enables your chosen attorney(s) to make decisions, if you are unable to, regarding your finances and personal welfare. Having a power of attorney in place ensures your affairs can be handled smoothly and will only ever be used with your permission or when you do not have the capacity to act or make decisions yourself.
Too often, families only discover the importance of a power of attorney when it’s already too late. Every adult in Scotland should have a power of attorney, regardless of age or health. By acting early, you can make sure your wishes are respected and avoid uncertainty and lengthy delays for your loved ones.
As part of our commitment to the campaign, we will be donating £50 for every new power of attorney instruction during February to The Dementia Trust, helping to support essential work for people living with dementia and their families.
