I studied law at Edinburgh University before taking a year out to travel around Australia and work for six months in a children’s orphanage in Mexico. I completed my traineeship at a large Edinburgh based firm and qualified in 2006. I worked as a solicitor in the litigation department of another Edinburgh based firm, specialising in family law but undertaking a broad range of court work including personal injury, property disputes and contract disputes in addition to that.
I have always found the areas I was most interested in, and found most rewarding, were the ones which involved individuals and where the problem they encountered affected their personal and family lives. I am committed to assisting clients move forward with their lives and deal with the traumas and tragedies of the breakdown of their relationships in a way which aims to minimise their distress. I am a trained collaborative lawyer and I can guide clients through this new approach which can greatly reduce the stress and avoid the combative nature of a court action, thereby allowing them to reach a resolution which is best for their family.
I specialise in family law and advise on a variety of cases including divorce, dissolution of civil partnership, cohabitation, pre-nuptial agreements and child residence and contact.
I am able to work with most clients to resolve their disputes without the need to raise contested Court proceedings through out of court negotiated settlements or in relation to the collaborative process. In the cases where Court proceedings are inevitable then I am experienced in representing clients in both the Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session and appear regularly in the Courts.
