Sarah Shiels

Partner

I joined Balfour+Manson LLP in July 2012, as a Senior Solicitor within the  Employment team and was promoted to Associate in 2014. In 2018 I became a Partner with the firm with a focus on the Employment Rights of individual claimants, including Equality, Whistleblowing and Discrimination cases. I have a special interest in both Aviation and Maritime Law as it relates to Employment.

I hold the Advanced Diploma in Trial Advocacy and appear regularly on behalf of my clients in the Employment Tribunal. I have also appeared before the Employment Appeal Tribunal and continue to lead appeals to the Inner House of the Court of Session most recently in University of Dundee v Chakraborty.

Since qualifying in 2007 I have specialised in Employment Litigation both in Employment Tribunal and the Court of Session, advising on all aspects of Employment and Trade Union Law, including redundancy consultation, TUPE, collective bargaining and industrial relations, unfair dismissal, breach of contract and discrimination law.

The best thing about my job is that every client and the issue they are seeking advice on is different. I enjoy focusing on the details when advising clients. Getting a successful outcome, is always the best part of the job.

Sarah Shiels is a fierce and determined advocate for her clients. Sarah has honed her skills and abilities as an employment lawyer by representing clients successfully at both employment tribunals throughout Scotland and at employment appeal tribunal level.
