The cost of putting a will in place

The cost

For individual wills

Our fee band for a more straightforward will is £400 to £550 plus VAT. If your will is relatively straight forward with simple bequests and few beneficiaries, the fee is likely to be closer to £400 plus VAT.

If your will is still reasonably straightforward but involves several bequests and/or numerous beneficiaries and/or requires bespoke provisions to deal with unusual assets, the fee will be at the higher end of the scale.

Fees for more complicated wills (such as wills involving trust arrangements or issues with foreign laws) range from £500-900 plus VAT.

For couples

If you are part of a co-habiting or married couple and both of you wish to make wills with reciprocal or “mirror” provisions, then both wills can be prepared at the same time.   Our fee band for a pair of more straightforward “mirror” wills is £500-£650 plus VAT (for the two).  As with individuals, if your wills are relatively straight forward with simple bequests and few beneficiaries, the fee is likely to be closer to £500 plus VAT.  If your wills are still reasonably straight-forward but involve several bequests and/or numerous beneficiaries and/or requires bespoke provisions to deal with unusual assets, the fee will be at the higher end of the scale.  Fees for more complicated “mirror” wills range from £700-1,200 plus VAT (for the two).

Identity checks

If you are a new client to Balfour+Manson, or a returning client who we have not seen for two years or more, we are required to confirm your identity by checking (or re-checking) two proof of identity documents, which can be done in person or online.

We are now also required to undertake regulatory searches to ensure that clients are not politically exposed or on any sanctions lists.  The regulatory checks cost £18 per person.
